Kids and Volunteering:
Are you interested in volunteering at the Humane Society of Lincoln County?
There are many areas where your help is needed. For example, we always need people to walk our dogs or sit with them and maybe read to them or just comfort them. Dogs love attention and shelter life can be very stressful and sometimes frightening for some dogs. Showing kindness and love really helps them to feel less stressed out. Our puppies also need a lot of socialization and playtime is an excellent way to socialize with them. Our Cats also love attention and love to be petted and comforted. If you are old enough, you can also help with other chores around the shelter.
Note: If you are under the age of 18, you must volunteer with a parent or guardian, or an adult approved by a parent or guardian.
Benefits for Kids:
Educates them on proper animal care and animal needs
Helps kids develop patience, understanding, compassion and responsibility
Introduces them to future careers in animal welfare and areas where the need is greater
Connects them with people who have the same love and compassion for homeless animals
Teaches kids respect and empathy for stray and homeless animals
If you are ready to start your volunteer journey and make a difference in a homeless pet’s life, please access the application through the Volunteer button below to get started and we will reach out to you!
Taking Care of Your Pets
Pets may look different from us, but they’re living creatures with many of the same needs we have. When animals get the right care, they feel safe, healthy, and ready to enjoy life with their families. Think about what helps you feel your best — pets need those things too.
Here are some of the most important parts of good pet care:
Nutritious food and fresh water
Pets need the right kind of food to stay strong and energized, plus clean water every day.- A comfortable place to rest
A soft bed or quiet spot helps pets feel secure and relaxed. - Attention and kindness
Spending time with your pet builds trust and helps them feel loved. - A safe home and yard
Pets rely on us to protect them from dangers, both indoors and outdoors. - Grooming and hygiene
Brushing, bathing, and nail care keep pets clean and comfortable. - Exercise and playtime
Pets need fun activities to stay fit and keep their minds active. - Regular vet visits and vaccinations
Checkups help catch problems early, and vaccines protect pets from serious illnesses.
Taking care of a pet is a big responsibility — but it’s also one of the most rewarding things you can do. When you meet their needs, they give you loyalty, friendship, and plenty of happy moments in return.
