Foster Care

Fostering temporarily in your home is a special way to show your passion for helping animals. Many of the animals that need fostering have been at the shelter for months. Their challenges can best be overcome with loving support, normal routine, and much needed human contact. By fostering a homeless animal, you are providing rehabilitation in a nurturing home environment and directly preparing them for adoption into a loving home.

Key benefits of Fostering animals:
- Directly saves lives: By taking in animals from shelters, you provide a safe space for them until they can be adopted.
- Reduces shelter overcrowding: Fostering creates more space in shelters, allowing them to help even more animals.
- Provides socialization and rehabilitation: Foster homes can help animals adjust to living with humans, overcome behavioral issues, and become more adoptable.
- Increases adoption opportunities: By exposing animals to potential adopters in a home setting, you can help them find their perfect match faster.
- Fulfilling and rewarding: Caring for animals in need can be a deeply rewarding experience, providing companionship and emotional fulfillment. It is akin to grand-parenting. Like kids, many animals are quirky and spark joy. All the parenting (animal or human) skills acquired over decades condensed into caretaking, loving, entertaining, and some training.
- Community building: Connecting with other foster caregivers and animal welfare organizations can create a supportive network.
- Educational opportunity: Fostering can teach you about different animal breeds, behaviors, and care needs.
- Flexible commitment: Most shelters allow you to foster for a period that fits your lifestyle, whether it is short or long term.
