Dog Walking/Cat Cuddling

Dog Walker volunteering offers opportunities for folks of differing physical capabilities and interests. To join:

  • You must be 18 years of age OR must be supervised by an adult.
  • Must have a valid ID when applying for a volunteer position.
  • Families are welcome to volunteer!
  • Walk dogs on shelter paths. (20 minutes)
  • Walk small dogs or senior dogs around the shelter
  • Socialize puppies (no walking)
  • Walk dogs and/or man the Humane Society float in local parades
  • Take dogs to the dog park
  • Take dogs to off-site adoption events.

Cat Cuddling is another opportunity – and equally important – that is wonderful for folks who aren’t up for walks:

  • Cuddle cats
  • Socialize kittens

We train and mentor new volunteers (a handbook is in the works) so you will become a valued member of the team. If interested, or have questions, call the shelter manager or email: sheltermgr@hslcnm.org.

Watch the below video to get acquainted with how best to walk the dogs.
