🐾 Meet Sandy — Our Special School Visitor!
Sandy is a sweet, happy dog who used to live at the Humane Society of Lincoln County. She was cared for by our staff and volunteers until one wonderful day… she found her forever family. Now she has a cozy bed, lots of toys, and people who love her very much.
But Sandy didn’t forget about her friends at the shelter. She still wants to help animals — and kids — every chance she gets.
So guess what she does now?
Sandy visits schools!
When Sandy comes to visit, she helps kids learn:
- how to be gentle and kind to animals
- what pets need to stay safe and healthy
- how shelters like HSLC take care of animals until they find their families
Sandy loves meeting new friends, wagging her tail, and showing everyone that shelter pets can grow up to do amazing things. Maybe one day you’ll get to meet her and give her a friendly wave.
Sandy can’t wait to learn and explore with you! 🐶💛
Mittens – The Little Kitten Who Found Her Way Home
Once upon a breezy morning, a tiny striped kitten wandered through town with paws no bigger than dimes. She didn’t know where she was going — only that she was lost. Cars whooshed by, leaves tumbled across the sidewalk, and the world felt far too big for someone so small.

Just when her whiskers began to droop, a gentle voice said, “Hey there, little one.”
A kind animal control officer knelt beside her, offering warm hands and a soft smile. The kitten blinked up with hopeful blue eyes, and in that moment, she knew she was safe.
The animal control officer carried her to the local animal shelter, where the lights glowed warm and golden. Inside, friendly faces greeted her with soft blankets, tiny bowls of food, and the promise that she would never be alone again. The kitten purred for the first time that day.
Days passed, and the kitten grew braver. She batted at feather toys, curled up in sunbeams, and charmed every visitor with her squeaky mews. Still, she waited — for someone who felt like home.
One afternoon, a family stepped through the shelter doors: a mom, a dad, and a little girl with a smile as bright as sunshine. The moment the girl saw the kitten, she gasped softly, as if she’d discovered a treasure.
“Can we meet her?” she whispered.
The kitten trotted over, tail high, and placed one tiny paw on the girl’s knee. That was all it took. The family laughed, the kitten purred, and the shelter staff exchanged knowing smiles.

By evening, the kitten had a new name, a new collar, and a new place to sleep — right in the crook of the little girl’s arm. Her world was no longer big and scary. It was warm, safe, and filled with love.
And so the lost kitten became the most cherished member of a wonderful family… all thanks to a kind stranger who stopped to help.
