Ruth was adopted by Leroy and Liz Smith in March of 2023 after being rescued along with 7 of her littermates from a local household that didn’t have any heating. Almost a year later one of her sisters, Delilah, was returned to the shelter but when she went in to get spayed, it was discovered Delilah was pregnant. Some of you might remember the adorable Facebook videos posted by HSLC board member Shannon Lefebvre as she helped raise Delilah’s puppies, one of which was known as “Blue” at the time. Leroy and Liz later adopted Blue — Ruth’s niece, despite their very different appearances! — who is now named Pablo, is 6 months old, and is growing bigger every day. As with so many adopted shelter dogs, Ruthie and “Pablo Escobark” are mild-mannered, incredibly sweet, well-behaved, and absolutely inseparable BFFs!

Lucy

Lucia, now Lucy is living her new life! She loves her new family and sister.

Effie and her new parents came by to say Hello. She has a loving home and is very happy.

Sophie

Sophie is happy in her new home! She just had a huge lunch and snuggles up with Dad for a nap. Sophie is so loved.

Bean

Thank you for a wonderful adoption process. Bean is now Willow Bean and is setting in wonderfully. She loves her new dad.

Emory

Emory’s dad is so happy. He said after days of rest that she began eating more and more! Today she is a totally different dog with lots of energy. She is loving her dad and new forever home.

From Dexter’s forever mom,

Just an update on Charlie (Aka Dexter) he is doing well. He and Lola love to wrestle and snuggle! He’s definitely following Lola’s lead and learning the “house rules” he is fitting in fantastic!

Clifford is getting more and more beautiful as she grows up.  She’s an awesome member of our little pack.
Thank you all for taking care of this little one until I could adopt her.

Hi! We adopted Bruno in December and I wanted to send you an update – He’s now known as Bojangles (Bo for short) and he’s an awesome dog! He’s settled in great and already went on a trip to Albuquerque where everyone loved him (of course 🥰). He loves his toys and going for walks. He doesn’t love getting in the car but we’re working on that. We’re so glad we found him!

Olivia, or Livvie, got her furever home on May 9, and is having a wonderful time on a girls day out with her mom and auntie, shopping for new house plants! She loves car rides, and now she loves riding on the basket of the electric cars at the garden center! She had a pup cup and later a pup cone! Livvie is bonding beautifully with her new human, is gently protective, and happy as heck!! What a blessing for doggo and human both!!!

We have many stories of

Happy Adoptions where our dogs

and cats find the Purr-Fit Homes!

Dori

Happy Tails Update!

DORI came to our shelter as a special needs dog. Without an adopter Dori would have been euthanized.
BUT as soon as her people saw the post on Facebook they came to the shelter just for her!
Now she is the love of their lives and living an enormously grand life.
She is the greeter at their business, Rusty Balls, on Sudderth!
Stop in and say hi to Dori (and her awesome forever parents)
It is almost her One Year Adoptaversary

Mutton

This is MUTTON.

Mutton was found on highway 70 by a nurse returning from visiting her patients. She saw him nearly be hit by a car & of course had to stop & rescue him & bring him to the shelter. One of our board members happened to be leaving the shelter as this nurse came in carrying the 4-5 month old puppy & also happened to know her & so stopped to ask what she was doing.

Our board member, PJ Schuster, ended up agreeing to foster this puppy since the shelter was quite full at the time. She ended up falling in love with him & adopted him. He got his name because when her niece first saw him he still had his woolly-looking puppy coat & she thought he looked like a lamb & called him Mutton.

Mutton has turned out to be a really wild & crazy boy, full of mischief, who just wants to play tug, rough-house with the other dogs in the household, & dig for gophers. He also loves to play in the mud, in the rain, or in a water hose being squirted. He is a much loved member of a group of six adopted & fostered dogs.
